The new Shanghai Expo Museum will be the next home for 'Archie' Debbie's mosaic lambananana sculpture
The new Shanghai Expo Museum to be opened in May 2012 will become a permanent showcase of the legacy of Expo 2010 and will include the Liverpool Pavilion's mosaic lambanana sculpture.
Shanghai already had a 5,000 square meter Expo Museum in the Puxi site of the Expo garden showcasing different artifacts and mascots from previous events, borrowed from Expo museums all over the world. When the current Expo closed its doors, on October 31st, works are to be started to expand this facility to a new museum of 20,000 square meters with the legacy of Shanghai 2010.
China Pavilion, Theme Pavilion, Expo Center, Expo Cultural Center and Expo Axis have already been pointed as the only five buildings that will remain after the Expo. But the organizers announced today that the new Shanghai Expo Museum will gather some highlights of the events such as objects and installations from participants.
The museum is set to open on May 1st, 2012, according to the Shanghai Expo Bureau. In between, some items such as Miguelin will be displayed for the public since mid 2011 in a temporary exhibition located in the current Urban Best Practices Area (UBPA) of Expo Puxi site.
